Itinerary
Day 1 – Sunday – Omaha, NE – French Wine Dinner
Arrive today in Omaha, NE where you check into your hotel for a three-night stay.
Tonight, enjoy dinner and a French Wine Presentation at Le Voltaire Restaurant. The menu covers all the regions of France and offers the most extensive French wine list in Nebraska. Le Voltaire has received the Wine Spectator Award for its outstanding varieties of French wine for the past ten years. Tonight, enjoy a presentation on French Wine, Cuisines and traditions by the Chef. (D)
Day 2 – Monday – Omaha City Driving Tour – Pioneer Courage Park – Lunch at Big Mama’s Kitchen – Violin Making Demonstration – Dinner at the Upstream Brewing Co. – Brownie Treat
This morning, enjoy a guided driving tour of Omaha’s past, present and future. A professional guide will join your group for an overview of Omaha’s top points of interest. This tour will include time at Pioneer Courage Park.
The park features more than 100 larger-than-life sized bronze sculptures that tell the story of the pioneer’s westward journey. Walk among the wagons, oxen, horses and pioneers. This unique public art display stretches six city blocks and features geese and bison flying and stampeding through downtown Omaha office buildings.
Lunch is included today at Big Mama’s Kitchen. Enjoy soul food dishes along with Big Mama’s famous sweet potato pie ice cream. Big Mama’s soul food has become a television culinary staple, featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Sundance Channel’s Ludo Bites America and Travel Channel’s 101 Tastiest Places to Chow Down (ranked #56).
The afternoon includes a Violin Making Demonstration. Experience the art of violin making from one of the best. Omahan, Alex Louis Reza currently crafts 6 to 10 instruments a year, passionately creating each violin by hand for musicians from all over the world. Learn the magic behind this craft and see Reza’s collection of rare violins, violas and bows from some of the most sought after violin makers in the world. Live violin performances are also available.
Enjoy dinner this evening at the Upstream Brewing Co. As Omaha’s original brewpub, they been making visitors feel like locals and locals feel like another round since 1996.
End the day with a treat at the Brownie Bar. Start with a “naked” brownies (traditional, blonde or dark chocolate) and top with eight homemade frostings and toppings like fudge sauce, butter mint frosting and peanut butter frosting. Mix and match how you please! Gift idea: Their sauces are available by the bottle. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Tuesday – Joslyn Castle Tour – Old Market District Lunch and Shopping – Lauritzen Gardens – Dinner at Gorat’s Steakhouse – Broadway Show
This morning you will be transported to Scotland with a visit to the historic 1903 Joslyn Castle. This 30-room stone mansion resembles a traditional Scottish castle. As your group enters through the huge front doors, they will be amazed by the craftsmanship of the elaborate wood interior, which comes from all parts of the world. Your group will hear the fascinating story of George & Sarah Joslyn and how the couple shared their extraordinary wealth with the community.
Next, enjoy free time and lunch on own at the historic Old Market Entertainment District. Stroll cobblestone streets lined with unique boutiques, art galleries, antique emporiums, sweet shops, and more than 30 locally-owned restaurants. It’s a great place for your group to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the authentic turn-of-the-century charm of the area. Horse drawn carriage rides and street musicians add to the Old Market’s appeal. Make sure to visit Hollywood Candy with its large collection of retro antiques and nostalgic candy, or enjoy shopping at Tannenbaum, where Christmas is a year-round business.
The afternoon features a visit to Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha’s Botanical Gardens. It is an urban oasis of beauty and tranquility and one of the region’s most beautiful and educational cultural facilities. The 100-acre botanical garden features a rose garden, children’s garden, model railroad garden and Victorian garden.
Dinner this evening is included at Warren Buffett’s favorite Omaha steakhouse, Gorat’s. This Italian steakhouse that has been in Omaha since 1944, and eating a meal here has become something of a pilgrimage for Berkshire shareholders and Buffett enthusiasts. Participants can enjoy Buffett’s favorite meal, which includes a T-bone steak, double order of hash browns and a Cherry Coke. Participants will also get a peek into Warren’s private dining space inside Gorat’s.
