Itinerary
Day 1 – Chicago, IL – Navy Pier – Light Up the Lake
Arrive today in Chicago, IL where you enjoy a two-night stay at a local hotel. This evening, enjoy dinner on own at Navy Pier and admission to the Light Up the Lake Event. It is Chicagoland’s largest indoor lights experience with interactive light displays, a whimsical skating rink, journeys through the Winter Wonderfest Forest, visits with Santa, and more.
Day 2 – Christmas Around the World & Holidays of Light – Macy’s Windows Displays – Lunch at The Walnut Room – Afternoon at Christkindlmarket Chicago – Evening Christmas Show
This morning, start with a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park for their annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light Celebration. You’ll be awed by the glittering four-story Grand Tree surrounded by a forest of more than 50 trees and displays representing the holiday traditions of cultures from around the globe, including Chinese New Year, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and St. Lucia Day. On the weekends, catch live international music and dance performances.
Next, head to Macy’s on State Street where you view Macy’s holiday windows (unveiled in November), which have been a Loop tradition for more than 50 years. Each year Macy’s features a different theme, with its storefront windows charmingly designed to tell a whimsical holiday story as visitors move from one display to the next.
Then have lunch in the historic Walnut Room, the first-ever restaurant to open inside a department store. The beautifully decorated Great Tree is the dazzling centerpiece of the elegant restaurant, which recently celebrated 115 years of serving hungry shoppers. The Tree is only accessible to customers with Walnut Room reservations during dining hours.
Enjoy a free afternoon for shopping at Christkindlmarket Chicago at Daley Plaza. The Market is inspired by a traditional German Christmas market and has become a beloved Chicago holiday must-do. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine while browsing the festively decorated booths offering artisan gifts like handcrafted ornaments and wooden toys, along with authentic German food and drink. There’s also live traditional German music.
Tonight, dinner is included at a local restaurant followed by an evening of local theatre. Chicago offers many thrilling holiday shows, with discounted tickets available for groups. The Goodman Theatre’s A Christmas Carol will be marking its 46th anniversary. The Joffrey Ballet and Broadway in Chicago also offer Holiday Classics as well. (B,L,D)
