Day 1 – Today, you will travel to Nappanee, IN, but first stop for lunch & shopping at the Shipshewana Flea Market & Auction. Experience first-hand why thousands flock to “the trading place of America” every Tuesday and Wednesday, May thru October. Shipshewana is home to the Midwest’s largest outdoor flea market with over 900 booths covering 60 acres. The weekly Wednesday antique auction barn has up to 10 rings going at once selling quality antiques and collectibles. There’s excitement and special finds at every turn. A shopper’s paradise!
Next, check into the Inn at Amish Acres for a two night stay. After you have had time to freshen up, head to the Barn Loft Grill for a Wine Tasting. Discover the fruits of the Lake Michigan shore Round Barn Winery in The Barn Loft Wine Tasting Room.
Tonight, enjoy Amish Acres famous family style Threshers Dinner in the century old barn restaurant. of all ages.
Top off the evening with the 28th anniversary production of Plain and Fancy, the story of life and love on an Amish farm, in the majestic 1911 Round Barn Theatre.
Day 2 – After breakfast this morning, visit the Quilt Gardens and Murals of Nappanee. Every quilt garden and quilt mural has its own intricate pattern, many are original designs, and each has its own unique story.
Next, you will take a guided tour Amish Acres Historic House and Farm tour. The 80-acre restored Amish farmstead, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the focal point of Amish Acres. This heritage resort echoes the simple life of Amish society through historic interpretation, dining, lodging, theatre, countryside tours, baked goods and 8 quaint shops.
After your tour, you will take a wagon ride around the grounds. A sixteen foot covered farm wagon is pulled by an International Harvester H tractor and gives guests an overview of the historic farm as it travels down the gravel lanes, around the pond, past the historic buildings, and through the woods.
Then enjoy a fun Amish traditional Haystack lunch and the Quilt Garden at Amish Acres during your visit. For those who wish, you can learn how to make Shoofly Pie in the Amish Acres kitchen bakery.
The rest of the afternoon will feature a guided tour of area Quilt Gardens. Join your local expert gardener on a guided tour of the unique official quilt gardens and official murals. Each quilt garden has its own splendid pattern, many are original designs, and each has its own unique story. The Quilt Gardens feature a rainbow of annuals planted in artful combinations to form a colorful patchwork that will have you grabbing for your camera.
This evening you will enjoy an Amish Supper favorite featuring Apple Butter BBQ Meatloaf complete with all the trimmings. Followed by a second theatrical musical production in The Round Barn Theatre.
Day 3 – After breakfast, take a guided tour of the Amish Countryside. Embrace the Pace of Nappanee with a long and leisurely ride out to the countryside guide. Watch Amish farms drift by your window as your guide explains the daily life of these simple folk.
You will also stop at the Kuhn’s Dairy Farm and see a working Amish dairy farm. Step into their cider mill and learn how to make apple cider the old fashioned way.
If time allows, you can stop at the Nappannee Heritage Center and enjoy lunch on own in downtown Nappanee.
Depart for home.
