Day 1 – Charleston – Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour – Arrive in Charleston, SC this afternoon. Enjoy a Horse Drawn Carriage tour of the historic district. Your guide will be dressed in a Confederate uniform will inform and entertain you with historical facts, lore, and humor about this 300 year old city.
Then check into your Charleston area hotel for a two night stay. Dinner this evening is at Sticky Fingers, one of the best known B.B.Q. restaurants in the Charleston area. (D)
Day 2 – Magnolia Plantation – Charleston Tea Plantation – Fort Sumter – This morning visit the Magnolia Plantation for a guided tour of the Historic House and self-guided walking tour of Historic Gardens. This 500- acre estate, was acquired in 1676 by the Drayton family, whose heirs still own and manage it. The 60-acre garden, one of America’s oldest, dates from around 1680 and contains 900 varieties of camellias, 250 types of azaleas and hundreds of other flowering species providing year-round color.
Or you may visit the Charleston Tea Plantation it is the home of American Classic Tea, the ONLY tea grown in America. It is located on picturesque Wadmalaw Island in the heart of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
Here you will learn first-hand how tea is made during an informative Factory Tour, then take an enjoyable Trolley Ride through the tea fields and help yourself to all of the iced American Classic Tea you can drink.
The tour is followed by free time at the Old City Market for shopping and lunch on own. It’s four blocks of open-air buildings where you will encounter a wide assortment of vendors selling high quality products including paintings, pottery, Charleston’s famous sweetgrass baskets, plus both casual and fine dining for lunch.
This afternoon you enjoy a boat ride to Fort Sumter Tour, the island fort where the Civil War began. Historians will provide detailed information about the fort and its pivotal role in the War between the States. There is a museum with fascinating exhibits and a small gift shop for your enjoyment.
Tonight, dinner is included at the Charleston Crab House. Founded in 1991, Charleston Crab House has been “Family Owned for 20 Years & Still Crackin”. Fresh Lowcountry seafood is served everyday in our casual, family friendly Charleston seafood restaurant. Indoor & outdoor seating is offered. Fresh blue crabs are delivered to the Crab House dock on the Intracoastal Waterway along with many other local products that the Chef’s hand select to prepare for loyal patrons. (B,D)
Day 3 – Middleton Place Plantation – Depart for Home – This morning we feature the Middleton Place Plantation; a National Historic Landmark, the Birthplace of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and America’s oldest landscaped gardens. It is the only surviving portion of the three-building residential complex that once stood overlooking the Ashley River. Tour includes the Gardens, the House and the Stables.
Afterwards, depart for home. (B)
