Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Oglebay Resort – Rockabilly Christmas
In the hills above Wheeling, WV you find the Oglebay Resort, a unique 1,700-acre park which surrounds the 258-room Wilson Lodge your home for two nights. This evening you enjoy a nice dinner followed by the “Rockabilly Christmas Dance.”
This show featuring Rosie & The Rockabillies is a Christmas Party that begins with tunes from the earliest years of Rock & Roll. Rockabilly was created by blending Rock n’ Roll with a Hillbilly beat, then made famous by such legends as Elvis, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few. You can expect to hear such classics from the 50s as Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run,” Jody Levin’s “Jingle Bell Boogie,” Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas” and many more. In the spirit of the theme, encourage your guests should dress for a 50s party as Rosie & The Rockabillies will have them on the dance floor Rockin’ and Boppin’ all night long.
Day 2 – Optional Daytime Tours – Honky Tonk Holidays
Daytime activities are scheduled as each group planner desires, you have an opportunity to put your own personal touch on the trip. There are also optional sightseeing tours available and we are happy to add any of these into your tour package at the costs listed.
Victorian Home, Tea and Toy Museum $19
This package includes a guided tour of the elegant Eckhart House, built in 1892, it also includes tea and confections. This Victorian Home tour is followed by a visit to the Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum.
Wheeling Island Casino Buffet Brunch $30
This 5-hour tour provides you with a visit to the Wheeling Island Casino with $25 in Free Play Gaming and a very nice Brunch (subject to change)
Oglebay Mansion, Carriage House Glass Museum $59
This tour features the Oglebay Mansion Museum (c.a. 1842), The Carriage House Glass Museum, and a stroll through the gardens. Plus Lunch at Wilson Lodge.
Tonight’s “Honky Tonk Holiday Show” is at the legendary Capitol Music Hall former home of the Wheeling Jamboree. The holidays have always held a special place in the hearts of country music artists and Jason Petty, who portrayed Hank Williams in the stage show “Lost Highway,” brings you a great collection of country Christmas songs and the stories behind them.
“Honky Tonk Holidays” invites you to share in wonderful memories with Jason and his band. They will make you believe you are hearing Dolly tell you about a “Hard Candy Christmas” and listening to Willie sing about “Pretty Paper” while Elmo and Patsy recall how “Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer.” The Gospel section of the show will highlight the “Reason for the Season” and the bluegrass song “Christmas Time’s A-Comin” will make you smile, make you cry, while you clap your hands and stomp your feet.
From Grandpa Jones to Alan Jackson and Brenda Lee to Elvis Presley “Honky Tonk Holidays” and Jason’s style of personable storytelling blended with humor and heart will make you feel as though you have taken a step back in time and the holidays will warm with your memories of these classic songs.
Tonight after the show you enjoy Oglebay’s Winter Festival of Lights Tour. One of America’s foremost Holiday Displays. Your narrated tour follows a circuitous 6 mile drive with one festive, giant holiday display after another. There are more than 90 displays in all, many are animated, and they use over a million lights. Plus, as you drive through the festival you’ll notice the park’s real-life deer grazing next to the displays.
Day 3 – Depart for Home
This morning following breakfast your group departs at leisure.
