Itinerary
Day 1 – Fredericksburg, TX
Arrive today in Fredericksburg, TX, located in the center of Texas Hill Country. The town was settled by German Immigrants in 1846. With a population of around 12,000, Fredericksburg has a charming small-town feel and abundant opportunities to relish the beauty and amenities of Hill Country life.
Check into your local hotel for a three-night stay. Dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 2 – National Museum of the Pacific War – Pioneer Museum – LBJ National Historical Park – Altstadt Brewery Tasting & Dinner
Start the day with a visit to the National Museum of the Pacific War. The Museum is dedicated to Admiral Nimitz and the 2 million men and women who served under him in the Pacific during World War II. “Uncommon valor was a common virtue.” Fleet Admiral Nimitz’s words in 1945 ring true today as the museum tells the sweeping story of World War II in the Pacific. This is the story — the history — preserved at The National Museum of the Pacific, an extraordinary chapter of our nation’s history. While there, also visit the George H.W. Bush Gallery. Multi-media exhibits, oral histories, and artifacts collected from battlefields and the home front combine with personal letters and photographs to provide an immersive and compelling museum experience.
Next, experience the rich German heritage of Gillespie County with a visit to the Pioneer Museum. This 3.5-acre museum complex contains superb examples of early German structures and artifacts. The museum is nationally accredited from the American Alliance of Museums. Enjoy hundreds of artifacts, as well as audio and virtual experiences connecting visitors to descendants of these original German settlers.
After a break for lunch on your own, the afternoon features the LBJ National Historical Park in nearby Stonewall, TX. The park protects the birthplace, home, ranch, and final resting place of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President of the United States. Stop at the Visitors Center, see his boyhood home then explore a real Texas working ranch at the LBJ Ranch and Texas White House.
Returning to Fredericksburg, enjoy dinner and German beer at Altstadt Brewery. Enjoy internationally-inspired dishes created by the award-winning executive chef that perfectly complement the traditional German-style beer.
Altstadt is an authentic Bavarian brewery dedicated to creating the purest, easy-drinking beers guided by the historic German purity law of 1516. Altstadt’s premium German-style beers are carefully made using only four ingredients – hops, barley, yeast and artesian spring water – under the direction of a world-renowned German Brewmaster using the finest hops, barley and yeast imported from Germany. Day 3 – Wildseed Farms – Afternoon in Texas Wine Country – Luckenbach Texas
This morning, visit the largest working wildflower farm in the US – Wildseed Farms. The farm has more than 1,000 cultivated acres in Texas and over 200 acres of wildflower fields at its Hill Country headquarters outside of Fredericksburg. View a real working wildflower farm and stay to shop at the Market Center where you can find gifts and home decor and Texas native plants and pottery.
You will also try the fruits of their 42 acre vineyard. Wildseed Farms produces a full range of wines that feature both Hill Country and High Plains grapes which you will sample in their breathtaking tasting room.
The afternoon will be spent in the Texas Wine Country with visits to a least 2 area wineries for tours and tastings. There are over 50 wineries in the area. Texas is now the fifth largest wine-producing state in the country.
Luckenbach Texas, where “Everybody’s Somebody”, was established as a trading post in 1849. Made famous by “Willie, Waylon & The Boys,” Luckenbach Texas reflects an eclectic mix of its early history, the larger than life persona of Hondo Crouch and an unrivaled legacy of great music that makes everyone “Somebody” in Luckenbach. Now a great place to visit, sit back under the old 500-year-old oak trees, relax and listen to music. **Depending on performance schedules, you will visit Luckenbach, Texas in the afternoon or evening. Lunch or dinner is on your own from the snack bar. (B)
Day 4 – Das Peach Haus – Depart for Home
This morning after hotel checkout, visit Das Peach Haus. This Country Store is the only place where you can see and taste every single Fischer & Wieser specialty product. It is a true Texas Hill Country treasure offering beautiful views of orchards and the pond, plus light bites and bakery items. There will be time for shopping and to explore the groups before departing for home. (B)
