Day 5 – Tuesday, October 20, 2026 – Guided Yorktown Battlefield Tour – Fort Monroe Tour w/lunch – George Washington’s Rock n’ Roll Gala
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a Guided Tour of Yorktown Battlefield. Discover what it took for the United States to be independent as you explore the site of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Here at Yorktown, in the fall of 1781, General George Washington, with allied American and French forces, besieged General Charles Lord Cornwallis’s British army. On October 19, Cornwallis surrendered, effectively ending the war and ensuring independence. Stop will also be made at the Yorktown Victory Monument.
Next, enjoy a guided tour of the historic Fort Monroe. In October 1824, Marquis de Lafayette, a hero of both the American and French revolutions, visited Fort Monroe during his triumphant return to the United States as the nation’s “Guest of Honor.” Invited by President James Monroe, Lafayette’s tour was meant to remind Americans of the sacrifices made during the Revolutionary War. Lafayette, who had fought alongside General Washington and played a crucial role in securing American independence, was warmly welcomed at Fort Monroe, which was still under construction. He toured the fort’s defenses and spent the night at Quarters No. 1, now home to the Fort Monroe Authority.
Lafayette’s influence on American fortifications extended through his recommendation of French engineer Simon Bernard, who designed Fort Monroe. Today, the site embodies America’s complex history of freedom and oppression, making Lafayette’s legacy ever relevant. His visit continues to inspire reflection on the nation’s ongoing pursuit of liberty, reminding us to preserve Fort Monroe’s history for future generations. A boxed lunch will be included today with your tour.
This evening, with our history lessons concluded we meet Gen George Washington for a Rock n’ Roll Gala at the Hampton Convention Center. Enjoy a Welcome Meet & Greet with Entertainers and get up close for pics with the performers who will entertain you throughout the evening. Enjoy Cocktail Hour on the Rooftop Deck and savor drinks and hors d’oeuvres with stunning views. And, of course, there will be Dinner and Dancing! Savor a delicious dinner followed by a Rock n’ Roll Ball featuring classic Rock Tunes that the General and his troops would have loved. Feel free to dress for the period, bring your powdered wig and dance the night away. (B, L, D)
