Introducing “Under the Boardwalk” a group travel event based on The Drifter’s 1964 pop hit that rose to #4 on the charts. The song’s lyrics describe an afternoon where a young couple plan to meet “out of the sun” and out of sight, “down by the sea.” It is a melodic and romantic focus for a group tour event featuring three straight nights of Pop and Rock music near the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

Day 1 – Virginia Beach – Jimmy Buffet Music
Arrive Virginia Beach and check-in to your hotel.
Featured hotels: Best Western Plus Virginia Beach, Best Western Plus Sandcastle, Country Inn & Suites, The Oceanfront Inn, Ramada on the Beach and Surfbreak Oceanfront Hotel and similar. Actual hotels assignments are made after receipt of your second deposit.
Tonight’s event is an “Evening in Margaritaville,” dedicated to that fictitious Island where everyone is young, where the sun and the music is hot and you wasted away a few idle days. We have a large ballroom with Islands of table and chairs. Music is playing as you enter the room and dancing is underway. This evening’s menu is a healthy, plated Caribbean meal with a little shrimp, a little chicken, vegetables and fruit.
The main show is by “Changes in Attitude” one of the best Jimmy Buffett Tribute bands in America. Wear your flip flops and bright colored Aloha Shirts. This is a festive themed party, with a show band, a shag dance floor, and a Cash Bar with Margaritas. (D)
Day 2 – Virginia Beach – Concert by The Drifters
Today’s activities are to be scheduled as each group planner desires, it’s an opportunity to put your own personal touch on the trip. There are also optional sightseeing tours available and we are happy to add any of these into your tour package at the costs listed.
Daytime Tour Excursions by Phillips DMC
High Flying in Virginia Beach Add $49 per person (Net)
This full day of touring includes a local guide as you drive to the north end at Old Cape Henry Lighthouse in First Landing State Park, and then turn south and drive the entire resort strip learning about the first settlers and last summer’s tourists. Your lunch includes a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra at the Military Aviation Museum where you’ll see a flyover by one of their many historic airplanes. It’s a great day that ends with dinner on own – or with Phillips DMC helping you choose the perfect local restaurant.
Spirit of Norfolk Luncheon Cruise Add $49 per person (Net)
Available on either Tues or Wed we have space reserved for your group on the Spirit of Luncheon Cruise. Their freshly prepared onboard buffet-style is a sampling of flavors and will satisfy all tastes. The cruise departs downtown Norfolk and offers great views along the Elizabeth River Waterfront, including the location of the first battle between ironclad ships: The Monitor & Merimac, plus the Norfolk Naval Base home port for the Atlantic Fleet and its 125 vessels including nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers.
Dinner tonight is on your own. You can book a local restaurant and include it yourself in the package or give your group the freedom to choose. Then we have a concert by Charlie Thomas’ Drifters. The men in this vocal group are members of The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame and The Songwriters Hall of Fame; they also have 13 Billboard Hot 100 Hits. Songs such as “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Stand by Me,” and “Fools Fall in Love.” This is a big musical concert on a full theatrical stage with Broadway quality sound and lights. Day 3 – Virginia Beach – A Beach Boys Boardwalk Bash
This day’s activities are also to be scheduled as each group planner desires, again it’s an opportunity to put your own personal touch on the trip by adding another sightseeing tour to your package or creating your own day of fun.

Navigating Norfolk Add $49 per person (Net)
This day tour features a visit to nearby Norfolk – a city that is historical, nautical and hip! You’ll get a Windshield Tour of the U S Naval Base – headquarters for the Atlantic Fleet. Then see the MacArthur Memorial showcasing the achievements of five-star Gen Douglas MacArthur. Lunch will be on your own in the newly renovated Waterside District. Then you visit Nauticus and the battleship USS Wisconsin. Before returning to your hotel you enjoy a high calorie delight with a stop at Doumar’s home of the world’s first ice cream cone.
Tonight’s big event is our Beach Boys Boardwalk Bash. Once again wear colorful clothes: flip flops, muumuus, floral shirts, sun glasses, beach hats, get in the mood – enjoy the food – a plated dinner, a healthy meal with seafood and chicken, vegetables and fruit. This is a themed party, a California blend of dinner and dancing that starts the night right.
After dinner we again have a large dance floor and a great tribute band by the name of Still Surfin playing the Best of the Beach Boys.
Whether you dance or just watch, it’s a night of great excitations. You’ll be feeling those “Good, good, good vibrations” as you listen to such classics as “California Girls,” “Surfer Girl,” “Little Deuce Coupe,” and “I Get Around. ” For many people this is a night of youthful nostalgia, memories of Beach Movies and Sock Hops. For others it’s a chance to hear the musical harmonies of another generation. It’s a night with a show band, a dance floor and a creative menu. What’s not to like? (B,D)
