Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive at House on the Rock
Today, you travel to Spring Green, WI and check into the House on the Rock Inn for an overnight stay. Dinner is included this evening at the Inn. (D)
Day 2 – House on the Rock Tour – Wisconsin Dells
This morning, you tour the House on the Rock. Alex Jordan used to explain his sprawling creation of collections, displays and galleries by saying that “one thing just sort of led to another.” Since those early days, the world Alex created has grown far beyond the Original House and into an attraction with many buildings that contain eclectic, exotic and whimsical exhibits and displays. A spectacular attraction with building after building filled with some of the world’s most unique collections of the exotic, the unusual and the unexpected. You might like to have lunch on your own at their cafe before departing.
No visit to Wisconsin would be complete without a tour of the Cedar Grove Cheese Factory. You will see premium cheese being made the old fashioned way and have a chance to visit the gift shop.
You then travel to Wisconsin Dells where you will be staying for the next two nights. Enjoy dinner this evening at Buffalo Phil’s Grille. (B,D)
Day 3 – Lost Canyon & The Upper Dells
– After breakfast this morning, you take a carriage tour through Lost Canyon. At Lost Canyon, you ride through a mile of cliff-walled gorges in comfortable yet quaint horse-drawn carriages. At the narrowest passages, the guides must talk the horses through the tight squeeze. In some of the deeper parts, the sheer rock and sandstone wall have not felt the touch of the sun in more than 50,000 years.
The afternoon features a boat ride on the Upper Dells. Marvel at the high cliffs and dramatic formations, navigate through the treacherous Devil’s Elbow, and go ashore to explore mysterious Witches Gulch and see the famous dog leap at Stand Rock.
This evening, enjoy dinner at Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty serving a family style, all-you-can-eat meal. Following dinner, walk over to the Lumberjack Show features age-old events such as the Standing Clock Chop, Axe throw, Spring Board Chop, Obstacle Pole, Hot Saw, Log Roll and more performed by professional lumberjacks and world class athletes. (B,D)
Day 4 – The Fireside Dinner Theatre – Lake Geneva
Following breakfast, you depart the Dells for Lake Geneva, but your first stop will be in Fort Atkinson and the Fireside Dinner Theatre. Here you enjoy an early lunch in their restaurant followed by a show in the 700 seat theatre. There are three permanent gift shops offering the region’s most complete selection of gifts and collectibles for all ages or occasions. The 2019 show schedule has not yet been announced.
You then continue to Lake Geneva, WI where you check onto your downtown hotel for a two night stay. You are just steps away from the beautiful Geneva Lake. This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Geneva Lake Museum – Lake Geneva Cruise
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before touring the Geneva Lake Museum. Step onto the brick pavement and step back in time. Begin with Potawatami Indian artifacts and Frontier cabin. Then walking along “Main Street” where you can not only peek into historic stores, homes, a school room and other places, but you can actually go into them for a close up look at furniture, clothing, tools, machines, merchandise, photos and other artifacts of daily living. You will get a real feeling for life and lifestyles in the late 19th and early 20th century in the Geneva Lake area.
Next, you enjoy lunch at The Baker House, a historic bed and breakfast that has been preserved with many of its original ornate details. Following lunch, enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Geneva. You will see the entire 20-mile shoreline of Geneva Lake and hear about the history that has made this area famous and gave the area the name “Newport of the West.”
Tonight, you enjoy the evening on your own. Lake Geneva’s ever popular, quaint downtown is a delight for the seasoned shopper as well as the reluctant tag-a-long. With blocks of charming boutiques mixed in with unique eateries as well as a beach, park and library, the town’s charming shopping district offers entertainment for all. Plus, you can enjoy the beautiful evening views of the lake. (B,L)
Day 6 – Depart for Home
After breakfast at the hotel, you depart for home. (B)
