Note: This tours requires some physical activity and may not be suitable for all. Participants should be able to climb stairs, walk reasonable distances over uneven terrain.  Plus you must also be aware that some sights at over 8,000 feet of elevation and overnight in hotels at 6,000 feet.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Salt Lake City & Idaho Falls

Today your western adventure begins in Salt Lake City, UT. On arrival, meet your professional local tour manager and depart for Idaho.  Travel north to Idaho Falls and pass through fertile farmland where Idaho’s famous potatoes are grown.  Check into your hotel for an overnight stay. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)

Day 2 – Yellowstone National Park

Depart Idaho Falls this morning and continue north along the west side of the Teton Range through Island Park on the famed Henry’s Fork River.  Arrive at Yellowstone National Park for a day of sightseeing.  The world’s first national park is a wonderland of natural beauty and geologic oddities that has delighted visitors over 100 years.  It is a mysterious land of steaming geysers, fumaroles and bubbling mud pots.  A land so amazing that the first explorers to bring back tales of Yellowstone were called liars.

Today you will visit the centerpiece of the park, Old Faithful!  There will be plenty of time to explore the area, witness an eruption of the world’s most famous geyser and have lunch on your own.  After enjoying Old Faithful, explore more of the geyser basins including Midway Geyser Basin and Fountain Paint Pots.  Travel along the beautiful Madison River as you return to West Yellowstone and check in for a two night stay. Dinner is on own this evening. (B)

Day 3 – Yellowstone Wildlife Safari

This morning tour the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center where you will gain insight into the lives of Yellowstone’s two top predators. The mission of this center is to educate the public and give them a chance to uniquely experience the grizzly bears and grey wolves.  A naturalist on staff will lead a guided tour of the facility, and then there will be free time to wander through the exhibits and enjoy a variety of presentations on bears, wolves, birds of prey and more.

You then have free time to explore West Yellowstone and have lunch on your own.  This afternoon, is a wonderful Wildlife Safari.  You break into small groups, meet your local naturalist guide and return to Yellowstone National Park for an afternoon and evening of exploration.  You will be traveling the upper loop including Mammoth Hot Springs for a walk through the colorful terraced formations of calcium carbonate, Dunraven Pass and the beautiful Lamar Valley where the search for wildlife begins in earnest.

Your expert guides will provide high quality optics to help you locate and view a wide variety of wildlife.  Enjoy a picnic dinner as the sun begins its slow descent, the best time of the day to view wildlife.  Keep the cameras ready: elk, bison, moose, wolves and bear frequently make an appearance in these areas at dusk.  It will be a late return to your hotel after an unforgettable experience in Yellowstone. Day 4 – Yellowstone & Grand Teton

Return to Yellowstone National Park this morning for another great day of sightseeing.  First, visit the awe-inspiring “Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone,” with a chance to see both Upper and Lower Falls, where the mighty Yellowstone River has cut its way through sheer rock to cascade down hundreds of feet to the foaming torrents below.

Next is a drive through scenic Hayden Valley, famous for large herds of buffalo and other wildlife.  You also travel along the shores of Yellowstone Lake with a stop for lunch on own along the way.

Depart Yellowstone late this afternoon, and arrive in Jackson, WY for a two-night stay.  This old cowboy town is now home to hundreds of art galleries, shops, attractions and restaurants but still maintains an old west charm.  Dinner will be included tonight at a local restaurant.  (B,D)

Day 5 – Grand Teton & Snake River Float Trip

Start the day early as you return to Grand Teton National Park and enjoy a Scenic Float Trip on the Snake River. With this giant mountain range as a backdrop, you will see the wildlife, the flora, and the sheer magnitude of nature.  Your river guide will point out wildlife, explain the geology of the area and tell stories about local history and folklore. It will be a morning to remember.

Then meet your local guide for a tour of Grand Teton National Park. Rising above a scene rich with extraordinary wildlife, pristine
lakes, and alpine terrain, the Teton Range stands monument to the people who fought to protect it. These are mountains of the imagination.  Enjoy the spectacular landscape rich with majestic mountains, pristine lakes, and extraordinary wildlife.

In the late afternoon, return to Jackson after an amazing day in the Tetons!  Enjoy a free evening to explore Jackson on your own.  (B)

Day 6 – Bear Lake & Salt Lake City 

This morning, depart Jackson and drive through rugged Snake River Canyon, then pass through the pastoral Star Valley to picturesque Bear Lake for an included lunch with a view of the lake.

Next, travel through beautiful Logan Canyon and then along the shore of the Great Salt Lake on your way to Salt Lake City for a driving tour of this premier western city.

After checking into a your hotel for the night, enjoy a farewell dinner at The Roof restaurant overlooking Temple Square. (B,L,D)

Day 7 – Tabernacle Choir & Depart for Home

This morning enjoy the “heavenly singing” of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (choir schedule permitting).  Once the performance ends at 10:00am, depart for home.  (B)
