Itinerary
Day 1 – Tybee Island
Arrive today on Tybee Island, GA – Savannah’s Beach. This barrier island has been a beloved vacation spot since the late 1800s. It boasts a tight-knit community and sprawling, pristine beaches with tranquil waves, making it the perfect group getaway.
Check into the Hotel Tybee for a three-night stay. Hotel Tybee has been welcoming vacationers for more than 130 years and is the island’s only full-service hotel, featuring more than 200 guest rooms with private balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Located just steps away from the sand, Hotel Tybee boasts many incredible amenities, including an oceanfront restaurant, two pools, a tiki bar, bikes, and beach chairs. The hotel is also a short walk away from several Tybee attractions, such as Tybrisa Street, the pier, restaurants, and the island’s legendary nightlife.
Dinner is included this evening at the hotel. (D)
Day 2 – Morning for Beach – River Street Shopping – Historic Savannah Tour – Pirates House Dinner
This morning is free for the Beach. Tybee offers three miles of unspoiled, beautiful sandy beaches to enjoy. From quiet North Beach to the bustling South End, you can’t go wrong with any beachside location. No beach chairs? No problem! Beach chairs are available to rent and can be delivered to your spot on the shore.
After a relaxing morning on the beach, its time for some sightseeing. This afternoon, travel to Savannah, GA which is just a short trip away for Tybee Island. Start with free time for lunch and shopping at world-famous River Street. Lined with shops and restaurants on one side and bordered by the Savannah River on the other. The century old buildings, once cotton warehouses, have been converted to antique shops, distinctive boutiques, spectacular galleries, quaint brew pubs, and fabulous restaurants.
Next, enjoy a guided tour of Historic Savannah. Moss-draped and molasses-sweet Savannah, like other Southern port towns, is forever linked to their past. You will learn of this city’s history on a guided tour this afternoon.
Dinner is included tonight at the Pirate House. Since 1753, The Pirate’s House has been welcoming visitors to Savannah with a bounty of delicious food and drink and rousing good times. Situated a scant block from the Savannah River, The Pirate’s House first opened as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a rendezvous for blood-thirsty pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. Here seamen drank their grog and discoursed, sailor fashion, on their exotic high seas’ adventures from Singapore to Bombay and from London to Port Said. Return to Tybee Island after dinner. (B,D)
Day 3 – Tybee Island Light Station & Tybee Museum – Afternoon for Beach – Seafood Dinner – Sunset Dolphin Cruise
This morning, visit the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum. The Tybee Island Light Station has been guiding mariners’ safe entrance into the Savannah River for more than 270 years. The Tybee Island Light Station is one of America’s most intact, having all of its historic support buildings on its 5-acre site. Rebuilt several times, the current light station displays its 1916 day mark, has 178 stairs and a First Order Fresnel lens. It is Georgia’s oldest and tallest active lighthouse (1733-1867) and one of America’s most complete light stations. The museum depicts Tybee Island’s history from Native American settlement to World War II.
Then enjoy a free afternoon for the Beach or local sightseeing.
This evening, enjoy a seafood dinner at a local restaurant followed by a Sunset Dolphin Cruise. Experience bottle-nosed dolphins swimming in their natural habitat! Dolphins are abundant in the waters surrounding Tybee. Get a closer look by taking on this dolphin tour through the channels of the Savannah River. Catch a glimpse as the dolphins jump into the air and race alongside your boat. (B,D)
Day 4 – Fort Pulaski – Depart for Home
After breakfast, visit Fort Pulaski National Monument. Kick-off your day with a bang, or cannon fire, at Fort Pulaski, a beautifully preserved Civil War fortress. Stroll down the fort’s short nature trails and catch a glimpse of the Cockspur Lighthouse, the long-abandoned structure that stands alone in the channel.
Depart for home following your visit. (B)
