Itinerary

Day 1 – Callaway Gardens

Arrive today in Pine Mountain, GA where you check into your accommodations at Callaway Gardens for a two-night stay.  Callaway Gardens is an award-winning, 2,500-acre gardens and resort nestled in the southernmost foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Callaway Gardens features twelve restaurants, plus plenty of places to explore and lots of shopping.

Escape the everyday all year long. Callaway Resort & Gardens offers four seasons of adventure, relaxation, and fun in Mother Nature’s breathtaking landscape. Take in the vibrant azalea blossoms of Spring, spend Summer days trying your hand at water sports on Robin Lake, featuring the world’s largest man-made white sand beach. Labor Day features an end of Summer Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Enjoy a Fall getaway playing in a corn maze during Pumpkins at Callaway, marveling at wildlife experiences, relaxing at the spa, or spending a quiet day fishing. And end the year with Christmas at Callaway, including Fantasy In Lights, a National Geographic-acclaimed light display.

Day 2 – Biblical History Center – Guided Tour & Biblical Meal – Free Time at Callaway Gardens

This morning, visit the nearby Biblical History Center and explore 2000 years of history.  Meet your guide for a tour of the archaeological replica garden where full-scale reconstructions of structures relevant to daily life in Biblical times bring history to life. Four areas of ancient life are represented in the Archaeological Replica Garden: Life of the Shepherd, Life of the Farmer, Life of the Village, and Roman Theater and Market Street. This tour will leave you with a new understanding of life in Old and New Testament times.

Following the tour, lunch is a Biblical Meal, a four-course meal consisting of 15 different food items, including soup, salad, fruit, main course, dessert and all beverages (grape juice or water). Your guide will explain ancient meal practices including Passover and the Last Supper, and the setting of the table for reconciliation. All of this will be done in the 1st century-style dining rooms, at triclinium-esque tables.

The Biblical History Center is a great place to visit any time of the year, but November 1- December 23, you can witness the history of the first Christmas during the Manger Tours. See full-scale reconstructions of structures of the time, genuine artifacts from the era, and insights that will make Christmas even more meaningful.

Return to Callaway Gardens this afternoon for free time.  Explore all that Callaway Gardens has to offer.  Dinner is included at the Resort this evening. (B,L,D)

Day 3 – Roosevelt Little White House – Depart for Home

After breakfast, stop in Warm Spring, GA for a tour of FDR’s Little White House.  Franklin Delano Roosevelt built the Little White House in 1932 while governor of New York, prior to being inaugurated as president in 1933. He first came to Warm Springs in 1924 hoping to find a cure for the infantile paralysis (polio) that had struck him in 1921. Swimming in the 88-degree, buoyant spring waters brought him no miracle cure, but it did bring improvement. Visitors can tour FDR’s home, which has been carefully preserved very much as he left it, the servants and guest quarters, and the nearby pools complex that first brought the future president to Warm Springs.

Following the tour, depart for home. (B)
