Itinerary

Day 1 – La Grange, KY

Arrive this afternoon in La Grange, KY just outside of Louisville, for a two-night stay.  Tonight, enjoy  dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2 – Woodland Bison Farm – Kentucky Horse Farm Picnic at Hermitage Farm – Kentucky Artisan Distillery Tour & Tasting – Le Grange Main Street – Dinner at One Nineteen West Main

This morning, start with a visit to Woodland Bison Farm. This historical bison farm tour is enjoyed from a hay wagon! With gorgeous views overlooking the Ohio River (a gorgeous fall foliage tour in itself), Woodland offers so many experiences other than bison, including florescent green rabbits and hot pink snails – art, of course, sprinkled throughout the farm and up in trees. Dating back to the original 1840s land grant, Woodland Farm has been a 1,000 acre working farm for over 150 years. Since then the farm has grown to focus on sustainable growing practices and heritage foods. Woodland Farm was added to the National Register of Historical Places and is the single largest Kentucky property on the Register.

Next up, enjoy a “Kentucky Horse Farm Picnic” at Hermitage Farm, a thoroughbred farm raising race horses and carriage driving sport horses! Enjoy a boxed lunch from their Barn8 Restaurant before your Hermitage horse farm tour.  Hermitage operates as a maternity ward and nursery for thoroughbred race horses, producing over 200 stakes winners since its inception.

The afternoon features a tour and tasting at the Kentucky Artisan Distillery.  On your tour, you will experience a bourbon distillery as if you were a distiller yourself. The Kentucky Artisan Distillery was built first as a distillery, and tours were added later. This means that every tour gets up close and personal to the actual equipment. You will not see anything from behind a glass window.  Along the way, you will learn the fascinating story behind the Jefferson’s Bourbon brand, as well as Whiskey Row Bourbon and Billy Goat Strut. The tour concludes with a tasting of four products which call the Kentucky Artisan Distillery home.

Returning to La Grange, enjoy some free time on Main Street. La Grange was featured in the HGTV series, “Home Town Kickstart” that premiered April 24th, 2022. La Grange is the ONLY town in the world with a CSX freight train running ON its Main Street! It’s called a “Streetrunner!” But you don’t have to be a train enthusiast to love this one-of-a-kind experience of the train passing slowly by while you sit in awe on a park bench of the courthouse lawn. In addition to the train, Downtown has a very walkable Main Street filled with shops, galleries, boutiques, consignment shops, hobby shops, and restaurants.

Dinner is included tonight at the One Nineteen West Main restaurant in downtown La Grange by the tracks is a sure-fire way to witness the passing train outside the restaurant windows! (B,L,D)
